Elizabeth Biser
Elizabeth Biser was the North Carolina Secretary of Environmental Quality. She assumed office on August 24, 2021. She left office on September 16, 2024.
Governor Roy Cooper (D) appointed Biser as the North Carolina Secretary of Environmental Quality on June 24, 2021, to replace John Nicholson, who had been serving as interim secretary since June 3.[1] Gov. Cooper had appointed Nicholson as interim secretary to replace Dionne Delli-Gatti, whose nomination was rejected by the state Senate that day.[1]
Biser assumed office as acting secretary on July 1, 2021.[2] The state Senate confirmed her appointment on August 24, 2021.[3]
Biography
Before she was appointed as secretary of environmental quality, Biser was a senior policy adviser at the Recycling Partnership and president of Biser Strategies LLC. From 2019 to 2020, she served as the vice president of policy and public affairs of the Recycling Partnership. Before that, she was the government relations and policy adviser at Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP. From 2006 to 2010, Biser served as the director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.[4]
Biser received a bachelor’s of political science and a master’s of public administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[4]
