As an educator, I spent nearly 14 years in public school classrooms at the middle and high school science level - including 11 years at South Washington County Schools. Most of my time in the district was spent at East Ridge High School helping launch and teaching Project Lead the Way biomedical science electives.

I’m a director of curriculum for the University of Minnesota Medical School, where I help bring the most effective educational practices to life with medical school faculty, staff, and students.

I live in Woodbury with my husband and our amazing ten year old son as well as our rescue cat. We moved into the community because we were excited for our son to experience his education in these excellent school communities. Since my son started school, we’ve navigated and learned a lot about services for students with special needs.
  • My passion for public education, students, and educators runs deep.
  • I have some great skills to contribute to the SoWashCo school board including:

Curriculum design & innovative pedagogy expertise Collaboration & relationship building with diverse stakeholders Leadership development & coaching skills Change & conflict management Analytical / scientific background - evidence-based decision making

Distill complex information into straightforward points for all audiences
  • All students should have access to high quality public school education. The school board should focus on developing policies that continue to further the mission of providing high quality public school education for all students - while working closely with their teachers, families, and district administration. I believe the school board should partner collaboratively with district administration to ensure adequate staffing - teachers, support staff, bus drivers, janitorial staff, mental health workers, and more - so all students are well supported.
Academic Achievement Gap

The academic achievement gap in South Washington County demands our focus and persistence.

My goal would be to keep our eye on this issue and continue the long-term critical work of reducing the academic and opportunity gap for at-risk and BIPOC students; this includes reducing / eliminating bullying and racial discrimination issues as well.

We can even look to our students for ideas and setting an amazing example: ERHS Students Work to Close the Gap

Fiscal Accountability
Focus on sustainable, transparent and innovative use of public dollars.

As a school board member, I would be committed to finding solutions to anticipated budget shortfalls while maintaining a more than adequate fund balance for rainy days.
I have so many favorite books but The Lord of the Rings series is an all time favorite because Tolkien creates such imaginative and immersive worlds filled with friendship, good and evil, and the coolest characters.

Diverse Hiring Practices
The district needs to continue to invest in diverse hiring practices. It is critical that students see themselves reflected in and can truly connect with their teachers and school staff. I would advocate for unconscious bias training in hiring committees, diverse hiring committees, community partnerships, objective screening practices, and tracking the metrics to ensure the district is meeting targets around this initiative.
