She was appointed as a circuit court judge to fill a vacancy in December 2012. Hogan was retained to the court in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2020.[1]
Education
Hogan earned her B.A. from DePauw University in 1990 and her J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1996.[2]

Noteworthy cases
Judge denies motion requesting new trial for Lamar Johnson
Judge Elizabeth Hogan denied a new trial for defendant Lamar Johnson in August 2019. Johnson was convicted of murder and was serving a life sentence at the time of Hogan's decision.
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner asked for a new trial in July 2019 after her office released a report about alleged misconduct of the police and prosecutors involved in Johnson's original trial. Hogan denied the request citing timeliness, saying prosecutors missed the deadline to file the request by “approximately 24 years.”[4]
