Elizabeth Anne Kovachevich is an Article III federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan (R). She retired from full-time service, assuming senior status, on December 14, 2018.

Prior to her judicial appointment, Kovachevich was a circuit court judge on Florida's Sixth Judicial Circuit.[1]

John L. Badalamenti was nominated by President Donald Trump (R) and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 1, 2020, to succeed Kovachevich on the Middle District of Florida.

Early life and education

A Illinois native, Kovachevich moved to Florida to pursue her studies by attending St. Petersburg Junior College and graduating with an associate degree in 1956. She earned a bachelor's in business administration from the University of Miami in 1958 and a J.D. from the Stetson University College of Law in 1961.[1]

Professional career

Kovachevich started her legal career as a research and administrative aide assisting legislators in the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation of the Florida State Legislature in 1961. She became a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Florida, where she worked from 1961 until 1973.[1]

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Paula Hawkins, Kovachevich was nominated by Ronald Reagan (R) on January 26, 1982 to a seat vacated by George C. Young on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination on March 4, 1982. She received commission on March 9, 1982. She retired from full-time service, assuming senior status, on December 14, 2018.[1]

Kovachevich served as chief judge of the court from 1996 to 2002.[1]

She was succeeded by John L. Badalamenti. Badalamenti was nominated by President Donald Trump (R) and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 1, 2020.
