Biography
Sherwood-Randall graduated from Harvard University before attending Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar. In the 1990s, her work focused on cooperative threat reduction. She was a deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia from 1994 to 1996. She also held positions at Stanford University, Harvard University, and the Council on Foreign Relations.[1]
From 2009 to 2013, Sherwood-Randall worked as a special assistant to President Barack Obama (D) and a senior director for European affairs at the National Security Council. She also worked as a White House coordinator for defense policy from 2013 to 2014.[1]
She became deputy secretary of energy in 2014, where she focused on national security, environmental management, and emergency preparedness. Following her tenure in the Obama administration, Sherwood-Randall worked as a senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and a distinguished professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology.[1][2]
