| “ | WHY ARE YOU SEEKING SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE AT THIS TIME? I believe that education is not the sole responsibility of teachers and administration it is truly a community effort. I grew up in this community, I attended middle school and high school in Oak Creek. I am now raising my child in this community and want to help ensure a continuation of a solid foundation for her, her peers, and generations to come. Oak Creek Schools has the ability, just like the city, to go from Really Good to Excellent. It is about defining a vision and executing the necessary steps to achieve that vision. I am a proud product of the Oak Creek-Franklin School District and want to give back to the community and district that helped to define and develop my abilities. WHAT WOULD BE YOUR PRIORITIES AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER? COMMUNICATION- Ensure clear lines of communication between parents, the community and the teachers and administration. Also ensuring more communication in respect to budgeting and goals of the district. TECHNOLOGY- Focusing on students individual and personalized learning utilizing technology but making sure they are not just being taught by a computer. RESPONSIBILITY- Being responsible to the community and making informed decision on a vote. HEALTH- Making sure students health is top of mind. Oak Creek Now candidate survey (general election)
Oak Creek Now asked the candidates in the general election the following two bolded questions. Sparks' responses are shown below.
Last summer, the school board agreed to spend $4.5 million to build a new auditorium "shell." How would you, as a board member, propose raising the additional $4 million needed to complete the project?
| “ | I suggest doing what other districts have started to do, by trying not to increase taxes, focus on forming more strategic partnerships within the business community and city. By forming stronger strategic partnerships we could see local business contribute to our district in ways that we have not seen before. Such as naming rights and other income generating ideas. To read more about this and other ideas, please go to my website www.elizabethmsparks.com.[11] | ” |

The school board has been criticized in the past for not being transparent enough. Do you agree? If so, how would you improve the district's relationship with the community?
| “ | The community has seen a great improvement, especially with the addition of the communications specialist this past year. Continuous improvement is necessary in the path to success. One way that we can improve would be to continuously inform the community about the ways they can access the shared information available to them, such as the school district website, email communications, Google docs, the district Facebook page, and school board meeting minutes and agendas.[11] | ” |
