Elizabeth Tavitas
Elizabeth Tavitas is a judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals 3rd District. She assumed office on July 19, 2018. Her current term ends on December 31, 2030.
Tavitas ran for re-election for judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals 3rd District. She won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.
She was appointed by Republican Governor Eric Holcomb on July 19, 2018, to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Barnes.[1]
Tavitas previously was a judge on the Lake County Superior Court in Indiana. She was appointed to the court by Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2006.[2]
Education
Tavitas earned a bachelor's degree and a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame.[2]

Tavitas' legal career began in 1990 as a Lake County deputy prosecutor. She has also served as a public defender, federal law clerk, adult probation officer, and private practitioner.[2]
