I am a native Texan, born in the West Texas town of Lamesa and raised in Central Texas in Coleman, and I have been a resident of Harris County since 1980. My heritage is Mexican American with Indigenous roots, and my identity, values, and loyalty are firmly rooted in the United States. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows me to better communicate with and serve our diverse community. I hold a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in accountancy. I previously served as a math teacher with HISD and currently work as an accountant, owning and operating a multi-service office, through which I have served the community for decades. I have also served for several years as a district chair for the Republican Party and have participated in numerous elections as both a presiding judge and an alternate judge, giving me firsthand knowledge of our community’s needs and concerns.
  • No one should be left behind Every resident deserves a clean, safe, and livable community. I believe we must care for all who contribute to our county’s success, including undocumented neighbors who have followed the law, paid taxes, and been part of our community for many years.
  • Responsible Use of Tax Dollars Our tax money should be used wisely to protect, serve, and help those who need it most. Harris County should not run a deficit while communities still lack the attention and resources they deserve.
  • Strong, well-maintained neighborhoods I am committed to seeing all our neighborhoods thriving, free of overflowing trash, overgrown lots, and unsafe housing. I will maintain an open line of communication for constituents to report concerns or request assistance. Harris County should be a place we are all proud to call home.
Housing and Community Development
I believe we must show compassion to everyone in need of shelter, because every person in our community, including those experiencing homelessness, is part of who we are. It’s essential that public funds be used responsibly to support all individuals experiencing homelessness, revitalize overlooked neighborhoods, and expand access to affordable housing. Whether someone is struggling to buy a home, keep up with rent, pay their mortgage, or simply needs temporary shelter, our policies should ensure that no one is left behind.

Campaign website

Vences's campaign website stated the following:

Platform and Priorities

My platform focuses on the issues that matter most to families in our district.

Healthcare

Healthcare should be affordable, reliable, and compassionate, built on the most efficient, patient-focused elements of Medicaid and Medicare, while still allowing families to keep employer-provided insurance.

Fiscal Responsibility

Fiscal Responsibility is essential; taxpayer dollars must be carefully managed, with strong controls to prevent waste and fraud, so that resources reach the people who genuinely need them.

Community Services

Community Services should be simple, accessible, and available to everyone in need, treating every person with dignity and compassion.

Immigration

Immigration must be both fair and secure: we must enforce our laws while providing a pathway to citizenship for law-abiding, responsible undocumented immigrants who have contributed to our communities for years.
