  • The Second Amendment reads, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Some believe the Second Amendment should be more straightforward, however, I believe the framers of the Bill of Rights intended a broad interpretation, as not to limit the rights of ordinary citizens. Narrow interpretations could potentially lead to the gradual chipping away of constitutional rights. The right to bear arms should not be limited to organized groups, such as the National Guard. While the military power of the federal government is partly distributed among the states, its our citizens that are the true militia.

  • Pro-Life - no one can “be deprived of life, liberty or property” deliberately echoes the Declaration of Independence’s proclamation that “all” are “endowed by their Creator” with the inalienable right to life. As a mother of 13 children, six adopted, I know firsthand that we can come together as a community to protect the unborn.

Government and Regulatory Reform
I believe and follow the seven values that must be developed in all Army individuals: • Loyalty - Bear true faith and allegiance to the Indiana Constitution and the Constituents who hired me to represent them. Duty, where I must always work not just to meet the minimum standard but to do my very best. I must commit to excellence in all aspects of your professional responsibility. • Respect for the individual is the basis for the rule of law—the essence of what the nation stands for. Respect means you must treat others as they should be treated—with dignity and respect. • Selfless service: While the needs of the Army and the nation should come first, selfless service does not imply neglect of your family or yourself. On the contrary, neglecting these crucial elements weakens a candidate and can cause the office more harm than good. • Honor provides a moral compass for character and personal conduct in the office we serve. It means that you live by words and actions consistent with high ideals. Integrity means you must act consistently according to clear principles, not just what works now. • Personal courage. It triggers bravery that allows you to take risks while legislating despite the fear of the many.
Openness and transparency in local government start with listening to resident feedback — I believe our constituents have to say is critical to the democratic process. Hearing the concerns and needs of your community members helps foster trust and satisfaction in local government operations.
