Ellie Kerstetter was a judge of the Jefferson County Family Court 3rd Division in Kentucky. She assumed office on January 30, 2020. She left office on January 4, 2021.
Kerstetter ran in a special election for judge of the Jefferson County Family Court 3rd Division in Kentucky. She lost in the special general election on November 3, 2020.
Kerstetter was appointed to the Jefferson County Family Court 3rd Division by Gov. Andy Beshear (D), on January 10, 2020.[1]
Biography
Kerstetter's professional experience includes practicing law. She also worked as a businesswoman for over 20 years.[2] Kerstetter is a graduate of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.[3]

In a statement to the Courier-Journal, Kerstetter touted her qualifications, stating, "I am the most qualified because having practiced in all divisions of district court for many years, I am familiar with the laws, experienced with its practices and procedures, and understand its challenges. And having represented clients from all walks of life, cultures, races, and beliefs, I will be able to communicate and deal with everyone who comes before my court."[5]

The judges of the Kentucky District Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections. They serve four-year terms and must run for re-election if they wish to serve again.[6][7]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:[6]
- a U.S. citizen;
- a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
- licensed to practice law for at least two years.
