RALEIGH, North Carolina: Ellie Kinnaird (D) resigned from the North Carolina State Senate earlier this month after having served in the chamber since 1997.[1]
Kinnaird said she resigned following frustration with the direction of state government. In particular, she objected to the new state voter ID law that was signed earlier in August.[2]
Now that she is no longer a state senator, Kinnaird said she plans to help citizens obtain state photo IDs so that they can meet the new regulations.[2]
A new state senator will be appointed on September 8 by party officials.[3]
