Elliott Asp
Elliott Asp is a former interim Colorado Commissioner of Education. Asp assumed office on July 1, 2015, replacing former Commissioner Robert Hammond, who announced his resignation in April after more than four years in office. The Colorado Board of Education named Asp to the interim role in June.[1] Asp, who previously served as special assistant to the commissioner, filled in until the board appointed permanent replacement Rich Crandall, who assumed office on January 19, 2016.[2][3][4][5]
Biography
Asp served as special assistant to the state education commissioner up to his appointment as interim commissioner, effective July 2015. According to his office biography, Asp has worked as an educator and administrator in Colorado for over four decades. Before joining the Colorado Department of Education, Asp was assistant superintendent in the Douglas County and Cherry Creek School Districts. He has also served on the Colorado Standards and Assessment Implementation Council (SADI), among a number of other state education committees and boards.[1]
Asp graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor's degree in biology before turning his focus to education. He went on to earn a master's degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Northern Colorado and his doctorate in educational administration and human development from Penn State University.[1]
