Elliott E. Maynard

Elliot "Spike" Maynard was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. He served on the court from 1996 to 2008, serving as Chief Justice in 2000 and 2004.[1] Maynard was defeated in the Democratic primary for the Supreme Court of Appeals in May 2008.

Education

Maynard received his undergraduate degree from Florida Southern College in 1967 and his J.D. from West Virginia University in 1974.[1]

Military service

Maynard served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1966.[1]

  • 1976-1981: Prosecuting Attorney, Mingo County
  • 1974-1981: Attorney in private practice
  • 1968-1970: Managing Director, Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce[1]

Elections

2010 Congressional bid

Maynard ran for the 3rd Congressional District House of Representatives seat in 2010.[2] He received the Republican nomination but was defeated by Nick Rahall in the general election.[3]

2008 re-election bid

In 2008, Maynard was defeated in the primary election in his bid for re-election.
