  • It's vital to build and maintain connections with the most powerful influences in students' lives if we hope to spur significant growth and achievement -- their families and communities
  • School Board members must diligently work to ensure all community members feel investment in our schools is a worthwhile action. And, all students and families must feel a sense safety, care and concern about their educational well-being.
  • The exponential growth in our community requires individuals with the experience and temperament to ensure our schools continue meeting the evolving needs of our growing and diversifying community.
I am most passionate about education policy and finding ways to involve diverse voices in policy efforts. Often, the voices that should be prominent in education discussions are the ones we rarely hear. The tendency to conflate policy with politics frequently results in teachers, students and many community members remaining silent on issues that impact what and how students learn, the environments where learning takes place, and how resources are directed at those efforts. Governance concerning education issues (local & state) should involve more than decision-making by elected officials. It must also include concerted, intentional efforts that encourage maximized input by individuals who’ll be impacted most by those decisions
I recall being in high school art class and they announced over the intercom that President Reagan had been shot.
A paper route when I was 12 years old. It was pretty big, so I did it on roller skates
"Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson. Growing up in the Chicago area I always wondered why all of my friends' grandparents were from Mississippi and other Southern states. It seemed that none of them were originally from the Midwest. Wilkerson's book details that "Great Migration" and shares the powerful stories of individuals who made that journey, some reluctantly due to their lives being in danger in the south.
Mr. Thackeray from To Sir With Love. He's a VERY cool teacher!

Preschoolers tell the WORST jokes, but their reactions at their bad jokes makes it all worthwhile.
