Elmer West
Elmer Gordon West (1914-1992) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.
West was nominated to the Eastern District of Louisiana by President John F. Kennedy on September 5, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 14, 1961, and received his commission on September 15th. From 1967-1972, he served as the chief judge. He served the Eastern District of Louisiana until he was reassigned to the Middle District of Louisiana on April 16, 1972. He served as the chief judge for the Middle District from 1978-1979. He assumed senior status on November 27, 1979. He served the Middle District of Louisiana until his death on November 2, 1992.[1] West was succeeded in this position by Frank Polozola.
