Elvert Lewis Stephens

Biography
Elvert Lewis Stephens attended Gibbs High School but writes on his website that he was expelled for fighting, "due to him not knowing how to channel his anger because of the pain he endured throughout the mishaps in his life." After earning his GED from the Thomlinson Adult Center, he began working with young people at the J.W. Cate Recreation Center, Campbell Park Elementary and the Campbell's Park Boys Mentor Program. He also started an organization called I Support St. Pete Youth.[1]

2015
The city of St. Petersburg, Florida, held elections for city council on November 3, 2015. A primary election took place on August 25, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was June 22, 2015. Four of the eight city council seats were up for election. In the District 7 primary, Lisa Wheeler-Bowman and Winthrop “Will” Newton advanced past Sheila Scott Griffin, Aaron Sharpe and Elvert Lewis Stephens.[2] Wheeler-Bowman defeated Newton in the general election. Incumbent Wengay M. "Newt" Newton Sr. did not run for re-election.[3]
