Emily was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She has a B.A. in Political Science from UTSA. Throughout high school and college, she worked at Whataburger.
  • Emily wants to make the local government work for the community.
  • Emily has dealt with government that ignores its residents and wants to work to make your voices heard.
  • Emily wants to create a healthy, sustainable future for everyone
Environmental Protection - We can transition to renewable and clean energy sources, increase and protect green areas, and cut back our pollution with simple policies that have been implemented in other cities and worked.
Public Safety - The best way to improve public safety is to address the causes of crime; reactionary policing doesn't reduce crime.
This office controls the city's budget. Defund the police has been a popular and controversial demand in recent times. Whether you are for or against defunding the police, the city is where you would need to direct your attention to make your demands heard.
An elected official should understand the struggles of the people they represent. They should be willing to work for everyone, even the people who didn't vote for them and they should fight for policies that will help everyone.
Emily would like to create a cleaner, greener and safer city. Improving public transit, infrastructure and transitioning to renewable energy resources to make San Antonio a better city for everyone are her priorities.
My first job was in fast food as a team member at Whataburger. I started there when I was 16. I worked there for 6 years throughout high school and college. I was promoted to an assistant manager position during my time there.
Previous experience in government and politics could be useful, but ultimately the person in this office needs to be able to fight for the people. The best experience for this office would be living in the community and understanding the struggles so many people face. Knowing where sidewalks are broken, knowing where streetlights are out, how cops interact with community members and knowing the locations of food deserts is more valuable for this office than having experience writing policy.
Any skills that are able to help a person reach out to community members and listen to them would be most helpful for a city council member. Time management, listening skills, writing skills, and the ability to research and problem solve would be the most beneficial skillset for solving the problems our community members face.
