I am a proud Burqueña, young mother, and product of APS schools. I’m running because I have actively been following decisions at the board level for over a decade, both professionally and as a parent of an APS student. I am the only candidate with children who are in APS schools. I have seen firsthand how the decisions at the board impact the classroom. I have also experienced some of these impacts as a former student. This is more than about building political power for me, this is about my children’s livelihood, this is about my community.
  • I have 15 year experience working with youth in after school programs, as a community organizer, and as a nonprofit Executive Director.
  • I have personal experience navigating schools and school communities while experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity. I am also a mother to one child who is currently an APS student, and one who will be in APS in 3 years. These experiences have shaped and continue to shape my worldview, fuel my passion and commitment, and are similar to the experiences many of our families are currently facing in the district. I believe this lived experience will help me develop and advocate for families in ways that will address the root causes of adversities, provide support, and uplift wrap-around services that are being provided in the district.
  • In my professional life, I have a proven track record of policy development, advocacy, fundraising, and budget management. I worked with several organizations and groups to develop and advocate for education policy, on a state, city, and district level. As a non-profit Executive Director, I have been responsible for fundraising and managing budgets in excess of 1,000,000 dollars
Youth empowerment, family engagement, restorative justice, climate change, human right, reproductive health care access, racial justice, and economic justice are all policy issues that I am passionate about and have been actively organizing and advocating around for the past 15 years. Education justice holds a special heart because I was pushed out fo schools while experiencing homelessness and poverty, and have been extremely committed to seeking innovative solutions that center the voices of students, teachers, and families.
