Emma Steele graduated from Indiana University Fort Wayne with a degree in Geology and is currently working as a freelance writer. She is a local organizer and activist with the climate action group, Sunrise Movement Fort Wayne, and is running on a progressive climate action and social justice platform.
  • Increased funding for public education and addressing healthcare inaccessibility
  • Climate action that achieves a carbon neutral future through environmental justice and job creation
  • Achieving social justice through increasing the minimum wage, strengthening unions, and criminal justice reform
Emma is passionate about defending the interests of everyday people. She believes that a person's access to healthcare, education, and a clean environment should never depend on their zip code or tax bracket. As Representative, her first priorities would be to bring climate change and environmental justice to the front of the conversation and begin tackling the biggest barriers for Indiana to achieve a sustainable future for all people, including increasing the minimum wage and expanding public healthcare.
My very first job was supervising a church daycare. I started that job when I was sixteen, and held it for nearly seven years, only leaving to pursue a post-college professional career. During my years watching those children grow up, I learned the importance of investing in our community's youth and their futures.
Indiana was ranked nearly dead last in its handling of environmental issues out of the fifty states. Especially considering how much of the state's economy depends on our environment, from farming to outdoor recreation, it is essential that the state begins to mend this issue. The window for acting on climate change is closing, and Indiana has a long way to go. I believe tackling the large gap between where we are and where we need to be on climate change and the environment will be the greatest challenge over the next decade.
