I am a first generation Dominican-American and a proud lifelong resident of the Northwest Bronx. Growing up in a low-income household taught me the power of community and helped me understand the problems we face today. After being the first in my family to graduate from college, I decided to stay in the Bronx when many of my peers moved out. I maintained my focus on being involved in the community and joined the local Community Board.

After years of community engagement, I decided to be the change our community called for and ran for the position of Chairperson. The board believed in my leadership and elected me as Chairperson of Bronx Community Board 7, making me the youngest Chairperson in New York City at the time.

Despite being under the same leadership for the last twenty years, our quality of life is steadily declining. It's time to reverse that trend and break the cycle of elected officials who ignore the real issues. In my role as Community Board Chairperson, I've succeeded where others have failed at creating tangible improvements in our neighborhoods. As a coalition builder between city and state agencies, community-based organizations, faith groups, and community leaders, I have successfully been able to push for safer streets and more units of affordable housing. I'm running for the State Assembly to bring that same energy to Albany. Our people deserve a leader who is truly community-based and has the expertise necessary to bring real change to our district.
  • As Chairperson of the local Community Board, I have been on the ground fighting to bring real improvements to our district.
  • I was born and raised right here in the Northwest Bronx, and I wouldn't trade my upbringing for anything.
  • With my concrete plan and an intimate knowledge of our district, I will be ready on day 1 to fight for the change our community demands.
The Bronx is in the midst of a full-blown housing crisis. There simply are not enough units of affordable housing to go around, and often the requirements to get one are too prohibitive. I want to amend the tax abatement program that developers receive when building new residential buildings to ensure that 50% of all new units are allocated to truly affordable housing. I also want to expand the eligibility requirements of these apartments, so that more Bronx residents can qualify. Every New Yorker deserves safe and affordable housing.

Crime in the Northwest Bronx is at its highest in years, and unfortunately a significant portion of it is driven by our young people. Due to budget cuts, many of our schools no longer offer after-school programs like art, music, and sports. If it wasn't for my middle school's chess program, I never would have received the college scholarship that allowed me to pursue higher education. As an Assemblymember, I will fight to increase funding for our local schools so they can bring back these much needed programs and save our Bronx youth.

Out of all 62 counties in New York, the Bronx ranks at the very bottom in terms of health. We have the highest rates of obesity, hypertension, and asthma in the entire state. Unfortunately, many Bronxites don't go to the doctor simply because they can't afford it. That's why I support the push for universal healthcare. Nobody should ever have to choose between medical care and putting food on the table.
