Biography
Eric Allen Marks was born in Toledo, Ohio. He earned a high school diploma from Perrysburg High School, an associate degree from Ohio State University in 1999, a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 2001, and a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2005. His career experience includes working as a judge and public defender.[2][3]

|In this position, he presides over approximately 200 civil cases and 80 felony cases in any given month. Before his judicial career, Judge Marks had a general practice focused on criminal defense, family law, and appellate practice for 15 years. He has also worked part-time as an Assistant Public Defender for the Toledo Legal Aid Society for almost 10 of those years. Judge Marks brought significant trial experience with him to the bench, having directly handled over 1,000 criminal cases throughout Northwest Ohio, and more than 60 direct appeals in multiple state appellate districts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Judge Marks holds a Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and an Associate of Arts from The Ohio State University. During law school, Judge Marks worked as an extern for Judge Patrick J. Foley in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, as well as for Chief Judge James G. Carr of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
Judge Marks was recently appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to a three-year term on its Continuing Legal Education Commission and is an active member of The Toledo Bar Association.- It is critical for trial judges to have courtroom experience and Judge Marks was well prepared before he took the bench. He directly handled over 1,000 criminal cases throughout Northwest Ohio and more than 60 direct appeals in various fields of law filed in multiple state appellate districts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Judge Marks now has close to 4 years of experience on the bench presiding over two dozen civil and criminal jury trial, numerous hearings, and written hundreds of decision on procedural matters. Judge Marks has the experience needed to handle these important cases.
- Judge Marks spent over 15 years in private practice settling and trying cases, he has represented individuals and corporations at all stages of litigation, and he has applied that work ethic and drive to managing the his trial docket. He understands that justice delayed is often justice denied, and Judge Marks is committed to bringing timely resolution to the matters assigned to his courtroom.

|Judge Marks holds a Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and an Associate of Arts from The Ohio State University.
Judge Marks is an active member of the Toledo Bar Association, having served on various committees and as the Chair of the Court of Appeals Committee. He is a member of the Lucas County Bar Association, and a former member of the Maumee Valley Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association and the Ohio State Bar Association. As an Eagle Scout, Judge Marks has volunteered as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years and has held numerous local and regional leadership positions within his church. Judge Marks is married to Renae, and together they have three children that are their pride and joy.- Judge Marks has served the citizens of Lucas County for over one and a half years now, and was dedicated to reopening the courthouse to litigants in a safe manner throughout the pandemic in order to protect individual's constitutional rights, and to give civil litigants access to justice that was largely placed on hold during the pandemic.
