Rein in the Corrupt Federal Bureaucracy
- Summary
- The last few years have brought shocking revelations about the political corruption that pervades virtually every agency of the federal government from the justice system to the intelligence community to the public health services. It’s imperative that we root this corruption out of the government before we lose our rights and our country.
- Details
- Lying, Spying, Censoring, and Entrapping has become the motto of the federal government. Virtually every agency of the government including the DOJ, FBI, CIA, other intelligence agencies, public health services like the CDC, NIH, and FDA, the Department of Defense, and State Department has been involved in one or more of those activities over the last several years, and probably longer.
- The government lied to us about war; lied to us about public health; forcibly closed churches; closed small businesses while allowing giant retailers to operate freely; spied on concerned moms at schoolboard meetings; spied on traditional Catholics; referred to patriots as “domestic terrorists”; colluded with social media to censor dissenting voices; tried to entrap Americans into committing crimes; and pursued political prosecutions of President Trump and his supporters. It is an intolerable situation which threatens our status as a free society. And it is completely unacceptable that no one has been held accountable for their actions.
- It’s time to put a stop to it all. As your next Congressmen, I will not rest until the political corruption that pervades our government is rooted out and destroyed. I will also not rest until the people who perpetrated these acts against the American people are brought to justice.
End the Pointless Foreign Wars
- Summary
- The politicians have wasted trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives on pointless wars in the Middle East and elsewhere. Politicians of both parties are to blame. And the consequences have been disastrous. It's time to fundamentally change the direction of our foreign policy.
- Details
- I am a U.S. Air Force veteran. I was stationed at Pope AFB, in Fayetteville, where we supported the important missions of the 82nd Airborne, Army Rangers, and other groups at Ft. Bragg. I proudly did my part to help protect America from the communists during the Cold War. I have always supported a policy of peace through strength. But that is not what we have today. After the end of the Cold War, America’s foreign policy became largely dysfunctional. Instead of peace through strength, the politicians of both parties embarked on a set of pointless, and reckless military escapades that weakened America at home and abroad.
- W. Bush used 9/11 as an excuse to bring “democracy” to Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11. Saddam Hussein was not a nice man. But he had done a great job of suppressing the radical Islamists in Iraq. Hussein also kept Iran busy with a regional war for 8 years, which decreased Iran’s ability to cause trouble elsewhere. But W. Bush decided to depose him. And today, Iraq is run by Shia Muslims who are allies with Iran.
- W. Bush also told us that he could use the U.S. military to force western democracy on medieval goat herders in Afghanistan who have never brushed their teeth. Bush’s delusions caused him to lose focus on Osama bin Laden, who escaped to Pakistan. Instead, he committed the U.S. government to a costly nation-building exercise in Afghanistan, which lasted 20 years. And his policies were a miserable failure, given that the Taliban is back in power.
- Bush also tried to force western democracy on Gaza. He coerced the Palestinians to hold elections in Gaza in 2006, over the objections of the Palestinian Authority and Israel, who were afraid that Hamas would win. Hamas won 46% of the vote, which was the largest share. Then they murdered rival politicians and took control of the government. The Israeli and Palestinian people have been paying the price ever since.
- Of course, Barrack Obama did his part to wreck the Middle East as well. Muammar Gaddafi was also not a nice man. He had been responsible for many acts of terrorism over the years. But he was recently cooperating with America on anti-terrorism activities at the behest of his western-educated sons who wanted to open Libya to investment and trade with the west. But Barack Obama decided to depose him. Today, Libya is a failed state, where Muslims openly run slave markets that buy and sell black men for $500 apiece.
- The results of America’s policies in the Middle East have been disastrous. Trillions of dollars have been wasted. Countless lives have been lost. Much of the Middle East lies in ruins. And millions of Muslims fled their homes and flooded into Europe, where they have disrupted European societies with escalating crime, rioting, and more.
- The Middle East isn’t the only place where the politicians have failed America. When the Soviet Union fell in 1991, H.W. Bush cut a deal with Russia. Germany would be allowed to reunify in exchange for the promise of not moving NATO troops into Eastern Europe. But American politicians including Bill Clinton, W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden broke those promises. NATO expanded across Europe right up to Russia’s border. How do you think America would respond if China stationed troops along our border in Canada and Mexico? Russia warned that they would not allow Ukraine to become part of NATO. In 2014, the U.S. government helped engineer the replacement of a pro-Russian Ukrainian President with one who wanted to join NATO. And Ukrainian paramilitary units started oppressing ethnic Russians in Crimea and the Donbas. Russia finally acted. Today, Joe Biden has spent upwards of $100 billion fighting a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine. And now Ukraine lies in ruins. As many as 500,000 Ukrainian men are dead. Millions of others have fled the country. Pregnant women are being drafted to fight. And there are countless reports of Ukrainian government officials lining their pockets with our money.
- It's time to fundamentally rethink how we keep America free and safe. We don’t understand the Middle East. It’s time to stop meddling in their affairs. Israel is a wealthy, technologically advanced country. They don’t need us interfering with them. NATO was created to protect Europe from the Soviet Union, which hasn’t existed since 1991. It should be disbanded. Yes, we need to pay attention to China which has become increasingly hostile to America, our allies, and our interests. We can start by decoupling our economy from China. But mostly, we need to focus on the mounting problems at home, including the invasion at our southern border.
Stop the Invasion at the Border
- Summary
- The number of illegal crossings at the southern border since Joe Biden has been President totals more than eight million people, which is greater than the individual populations of 38 U.S. states. This is unprecedented in history and has created a host of intractable problems. We must regain control of our border immediately.
- Recommendations
- Make being here illegally a real crime punishable by a long term in prison, followed by deportation.
- End birthright citizenship for the children of people who aren’t citizens or permanent residents.
- Complete the border wall and increase the number of Border Patrol agents.
- Temporarily suspend accepting asylum seekers.
- Details
- Prior to Joe Biden taking office, the consensus was that there were 11 million illegal migrants in America. But MIT did a study that showed the number could be as high as 22 million. Illegal crossings at the southern border since Joe Biden has been President totals more than eight million people, which is greater than the individual populations of 38 U.S. states. And there have been an estimated 1.5 million “gotaways”, i.e., people who escaped the border patrol altogether. Today, there are somewhere between 20 million and 30 million illegal migrants in the country. And the pace of people entering the country illegally is accelerating. The situation has gotten so bad that even Democrat Mayors of sanctuary cities, including Eric Adams of New York are sounding the alarm bells.
- Many of the illegal migrants are just here to work and build a better life for themselves. But this hurts American workers, especially the poor and lower middle class, by increasing the supply of labor which suppresses wages. Other illegals come here so their babies can be born on U.S. soil, which will make them automatic U.S. citizens. There is even an enormous birth tourism industry in China which sends pregnant women to America and gives them a place to stay until they give birth. Other illegal migrants are here to commit crimes. They’ve turned America into the sex trafficking capital of the world. And they are killing hundreds of thousands of Americans each year with Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids. It’s also a good bet that at least a few of them are here to commit acts of terrorism. And there has been a recent surge in military-age men from China illegally crossing the border without wives and children.
- During the 1950’s, President Eisenhower embarked on a program to deport illegal migrants. It took him 2 years to deport about 1 million people. At that pace, deporting 30 million migrants would take at least 60 years. We can’t wait that long to solve this problem.
- We must make being here illegally a real crime punishable by a long term in prison, followed by deportation. If we do this, and follow through, it won’t be long before many illegal migrants decide that it’s better to go home than go to jail. Millions will leave on their own. Of course, gang members, drug dealers, and child traffickers won't leave. So, ICE will need to continue to find those that remain. We also need to end birthright citizenship for the children of people who aren’t citizens or permanent residents. We’ll have to complete the border wall and increase the number of Border Patrol agents. And we'll also have to temporarily suspend accepting asylum seekers. The asylum program is how the Democrats get away with “catch and release” without breaking the law. It will have to be put on hold until the overall illegal migrant situation is under control.
- America has the most generous immigration policies in the world. We allow 1 million legal immigrants into the country each year. That is usually more than all other countries in the world combined. We cannot allow millions of illegal migrants uncontrolled entry into America. It’s not good for our economy, our people, our safety, and our future as a stable, cohesive society.
- It’s time for the politicians to stop playing games with this. I will work hard to put together a coalition to solve the illegal migrant problem once and for all.
Bring Outsourced Manufacturing and Technology Jobs Home and Rebuild Our Economy
- Summary
- Over the last 40 years, American corporations moved thousands of manufacturing facilities overseas. Millions of American jobs making critical products were lost. American corporations have also outsourced countless technology jobs to other countries. Our future depends on us bringing manufacturing and technology jobs back to America.
- Recommendations::
- Taxes and Regulations
- Our 70,000-page tax code and abusive regulatory regime are major incentives for American companies to outsource work overseas. We must simplify our tax and regulatory systems to make America the best place to open a new business, expand and existing business, and hire Americans.
- World Class Workforce
- America’s economic prosperity rests on our ability to innovate. We cannot innovate with an innumerate and scientifically illiterate population. America spends more money per student on education than any other developed country. Yet we get lousy results with American kids usually scoring in the bottom half in science and close to the very bottom in math compared to their counterparts overseas. It’s time to reform our sclerotic, costly, and failing schools by relying more on charter, private, parochial, community, cooperative, micro, and home schools.
- The federal student loan program entices students to go deeply into debt to pursue degrees that don't impart marketable skills. Let’s replace it with a program that reimburses students who pass classes in a STEM discipline, healthcare, or a skilled trade.
- Over 50% of students in STEM graduate programs at American Universities are foreign nationals. This has driven up the cost of tuition and locked Americans out. We should cap the F1 student visa program to make room for American students in STEM majors.
- Immigration
- H1B and other temporary worker programs encourage foreign nationals to work in America for a few years where they hone their skills, learn how America conducts business, and build relationships with corporate decision-makers. Then many go back home and leverage offshore teams to compete against American workers. I want to replace the H1B temporary worker program with an immigration program that allows STEM talent to immigrate to the U.S., become American citizens, and help us compete in the global economy. But immigration should not be used as a substitute for creating an educated workforce at home. Immigrants should be used to supplement Americans, not supplant them.
- Trade
- America’s economic history doesn’t support the ideology of the so-called free traders. The highest economic growth rates in American history were between 1861 and 1933, when the average tariffs on manufactured goods were 50%. We must revive the trade practices that built America by replacing the destructive free trade ideology with a program of reciprocal trade.
Revitalize our Underprivileged Communities
- Summary
- America has many underprivileged citizens in cities and rural areas who don’t have the skills and resources to succeed in the market. This has led to many social dysfunctions including depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, crime, suicide, and broken families. It’s time to stop ignoring this problem and tackle it head on.
- Recommendations
- Training
- We should work with states, colleges, vocational schools, and businesses to provide training programs for underprivileged people. These programs should include remedial high school education, training in personal finance and money management, vocational training in a skilled trade, and business ownership and entrepreneurship education.
- Microfinance
- We should also work with banks, venture capital firms, and private equity companies to create a microfinance program to provide loans and investment capital to poor and socially marginalized entrepreneurs to help bootstrap local businesses in depressed areas. Microfinance programs have been a success in helping poor entrepreneurs in Africa. They can work in American cities and rural areas too.
- Opportunity Zones
- We also need to expand President Trump’s successful Opportunity Zones program to better ensure that low-income individuals are appropriately benefiting from economic development in blighted areas.
- Safety
- A community cannot be fully revitalized unless it is safe. We should make all federal programs for communities contingent on restoring law and order.
Renew our Aging and Overburdened Infrastructure
- Summary
- America’s infrastructure is aging and overburdened. Unfortunately, many recent infrastructure projects have been politically motivated boondoggles. We must find new and innovative approaches to rebuild our critical infrastructure that doesn’t waste money on politically motivated projects.
- Recommendations
- Roads and Bridges
- Many of our nation’s roads are falling apart. And one in three bridges needs to be repaired or replaced. It’s time to rebuild them. In many cases, the costs can be covered by partnering with private businesses. The businesses would cover the upfront cost of rebuilding the roads and bridges in exchange for long-term contracts to operate and maintain them. Many European countries have adopted such an approach. We should look at it too.
- Aviation System
- The U.S. aviation system is overloaded, and near-collisions are on the rise. The current system also lacks pinpoint accuracy, forcing planes to fly farther apart and limiting the number of flights that can be in the same area. It’s time to modernize America’s antiquated Air Traffic Control system. Canada privatized their air traffic control system in 1996. Unlike the United States, Nav Canada operates a modern system. They are also partnering with Iridium to launch satellites to track aircraft around the globe in real time. We should investigate creating a similar privatized air traffic control system that is owned and managed by U.S. airlines and airports.
- Ports and Waterways
- Our ports and waterways are facing critical issues, including mounting delays. Many countries have created public-private partnerships to solve these issues. In such a system, the land is state-owned, the port is regulated by the state, while the actual operation is performed privately to improve operations. It’s something we should consider.
- Electric Grid
- Recent events demonstrate that America’s electric grid is unprepared to handle cyberthreats and extreme weather events like heat waves or winter storms. We need to transform our electric grid into a modern, hardened system that can support distributed energy resources, grid-scale energy storage, microgrids, advanced metering, demand response, and other smart grid technologies, as well as the massive increase in demand for electricity that is projected over the next several decades.
- Broadband Internet
- 14 million American households lack any access to broadband Internet services. Most of these people live in rural areas where it’s cost prohibitive for providers to offer service. There are areas right here in the 4th District that don’t have adequate Internet coverage. We cannot build a modern economy without a world-class Internet. We should provide tax and regulatory incentives to Internet providers to fill out services in uncovered areas.
- Mass Transit
- America spends too much time and money on costly, inflexible, and underutilized light rail projects. There are better mass transit alternatives, including privately owned and operated microbuses like they have in the Philippines. Combining self-driving capabilities with today’s ride sharing services and tomorrow’s microbus services will provide us with a much more effective mass transit system than light rail could ever hope to achieve.
Create a Green Future that is Technologically Feasible and Economically Viable
- Summary
- Yes, we can have a sustainable future with green and reliable energy. But it won’t happen unless the unworkable, costly, and economically destructive policies of the Biden administration are changed. Any movement to a greener future must be led by the market, not the government, to ensure that it is technologically feasible and economically viable.
- Details
- Since taking office, the Biden Administration has shut down the construction of oil pipelines, suspended oil and natural gas leases, and increased environmental regulations on oil and natural gas exploration. They have also committed to shutting down coal-fired electrical plants. The Biden Administration even wants to close natural gas plants, which have been responsible for the largest decrease in pollution in America over the last 20 years as the power companies replaced coal with natural gas. The Biden Administration also wants half of all cars sold in America to be electric by 2030, which is six short years away. And there are rumors of pending regulations to restrict the use of natural gas appliances and furnaces.
- At first glance, the energy policies of the Biden Administration seem schizophrenic at best. They are replacing reliable sources of energy on the grid with unreliable sources. At the same time, they are placing more burdens on the grid by forcing cars, furnaces, stoves, and more to electrify. Undoubtedly, the technical illiteracy and sheer incompetence of the people in the Biden administration is a contributing factor to these contradictory policies.
- There is very little doubt that the climate is changing, given that the climate is constantly changing. But there are serious and well-reasoned scientific objections to the belief that human activity is the primary cause, and that climate change will bring about the apocalyptic consequences that are being predicted by some. But let’s say for a minute that they are correct and that we must dramatically decrease the use of fossil fuels. What would that realistically look like?
- Elon Musk estimates that the world must double its electric power generation just to accommodate the electrification of the transportation system. Today, over one billion people in the world don’t have access to electricity. As they are lifted from poverty, more electricity will have to be generated to accommodate them. The worldwide population is also expected to grow from 7.5 billion people today to nearly 9 billion people by the end of the century, resulting in an increased demand for electricity. In addition, technological innovation, including the widespread use of AI and IoT devices will also result in more demand for electricity. Nathan Myhrvold, who is the CEO of Intellectual Ventures and former Microsoft Chief Technology Officer predicts that by the end of the century, the world will have to generate five to six times the amount of electricity than is generated today. As he points out, this cannot be done without a substantial investment in nuclear power.
- Generating electricity from solar and wind is unreliable. Electricity can’t be generated from solar cells at night or when it’s cloudy. Wind turbines don’t generate electricity when it’s not windy. Today, the small amount of electricity that is generated by solar and wind is backed up by natural gas, coal, and nuclear power. Putting more solar and wind on the grid will necessitate more sources of reliable backup power to avoid rolling blackouts. Myhrvold is right — nuclear power is the only way right now to do this in a “green” way. But it will take decades to bring the nuclear capacity online just to electrify the transportation system. Energy conservation may help at the margins, but it won’t stem the need to generate significantly more electrical power as we electrify transportation, help people out of poverty, support a growing population, and facilitate technological innovation.
- The current generation of electric cars also have too many issues to reliably electrify the transportation system. Lithium-ion batteries are expensive. They take too long to charge. Every charging cycle reduces the amount of energy the battery can hold. They don’t work well in colder temperatures. They tend to catch fire if they are overcharged, are damaged, and when they age. The raw materials needed for lithium-ion batteries are controlled by China in places like The Congo and Afghanistan. Cobalt and lithium mining operations use children under horrific working conditions. And disposing of the batteries poses serious environmental concerns.
- None of the current issues means that the electrification of transportation isn’t a good thing or even inevitable. I grew up in Detroit and have many relatives who work at the auto companies. One of my brothers-in-law is an engineer who works on battery programs at GM. I’ve looked at this for a long time and have concluded that the future of the automobile is probably electric. And there are technologies on the horizon that may facilitate this. They include solid-state batteries, graphene batteries, and sodium-ion batteries. But none of these technologies is ready for commercial use. Hydrogen fuel cells may also provide an answer, but they still have obstacles to overcome including their use of expensive platinum and the prohibitive cost of extracting hydrogen from water.
- It's an enormous mistake for politicians to try to accelerate the process of moving to a “green” future. The technologies are not ready for mass adoption, and the economics don’t yet work. The market should be allowed to progress at the pace the technologies and the economics allow. Unfortunately, and to our detriment, the no-nothing politicians aren’t likely to listen. And as always, the “help” the politicians provide will turn out to be a hinderance.
- One of my top goals in Congress will be to build alliances that will support a realistic, market-based transition to a cleaner future, based on scientific facts and reliable technologies, instead of the dreams, wishes, and fantasies of the Biden Administration.
Vaccines
- Discussion
- The vaccine debate in the United States has become completely dysfunctional. On one side are people who believe that we should just blindly follow the edicts of the public health authorities. On the other side are those who think that all vaccines are unnecessary. I don’t agree with either of these positions.
- I generally agree that it is the responsibility of parents, not the government, to care for their children. This includes making informed decisions about their health. I also tend to agree that there are too many vaccines today and many of them aren’t needed. But I have also personally seen polio victims in India. No parent has the right to sentence their child to a lifetime of pain and misery because they wouldn’t allow them to receive the polio vaccine.
- There are three issues with the vaccine debate and the public health system in general today.
- The first issue is corruption. Big pharma and other special interest groups control our healthcare processes and have used their influence to increase profits for themselves, often at the expense of public health. We must end the revolving door between corporations and public health agencies.
- The second problem is hubris. There are a lot of people in the world who think they know more than they really do. Bill Gates is a prime example. A lot of these people have power and influence over our system. We cannot end hubris, but we can neutralize it by rigorously following the scientific method, instead of pretending that speculation and conjecture are scientific facts.
- The third issue is the lust for power. Power hungry politicians will use any crisis to expand government control over society. We saw that during the COVID fiasco. We also see it with the so-called climate crisis. Again, we must follow the scientific method to deduce provable facts and use those facts to expose the lies of the power seekers.
- Corruption, hubris, and the lust for power have destroyed trust in our public health services, and many other government agencies. That trust cannot be restored until we reform the NIH, CDC, and FDA. And until trust is restored, we will continue to have dysfunctional discussions about vaccines, public health, and many other issues.
Healthcare
- Summary
- America spends a larger percentage of its GDP on healthcare than any other country. And our healthcare outcomes are not that good. There are solutions, but the politicians have refused to address the issues. It’s time to change that.
- Details
- America spends 17.4% of our GDP on healthcare while the OECD average is 9.2%. And our health outcomes are not good. I have spent a lot of time in Singapore as part of my business travels. Singapore has one of the best and most cost-effective healthcare systems in the world. Singapore only spends 6% of GDP on healthcare, yet they have a lower infant mortality rate and higher life expectancy than Americans. They’ve been able to do this by turning their country into a nation of healthcare shoppers who pay attention to the costs and outcomes of their healthcare providers. It should be noted that many of Singapore’s healthcare policies originated in American universities and think tanks. I don’t think it’s possible to replicate Singapore’s numbers in America given our aging population and unhealthy lifestyles. But we can make improvements to the quality of care and overall cost of the system. I will be writing more about how America can adopt portions of Singapore’s healthcare system, which was largely invented in America, as the campaign progresses.
Social Security
- Summary
- The Social Security trustees tell us that the system is bankrupt. Unless Congress acts, Social Security benefits will have to be substantially cut in 10 short years. We must act before millions of retirees are harmed.
- Details
- The American population is quickly aging. By 2034, Social Security benefits will have to be cut by 23% to support retirees because there won’t be enough people paying into the system to sustain current benefit levels. These retirees will receive far less money than they paid into the system. There are several things we can do to shore up Social Security. I will write about how to do this as the campaign progresses.
Abortion
- Summary
- Re-federalizing abortion law through legislation, as many people on both sides of the aisle advocate, would be a huge mistake. In our federalist system, abortion policy belongs with the states.
- Details
- I am pro-life. But regardless of one’s views on abortion, it’s clear that the Roe vs. Wade decision was disastrous for our country. It unnecessarily polarized society. It froze the law at a time when medicine didn't know much about what happens in the womb during a pregnancy. And it stalled the process of the states working out the legal complexities of abortion themselves.
- Now that Roe has been overturned, Democrats are pushing federal legislation to make abortion legal nationwide. Some Republicans are advocating federal legislation to restrict abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, which would give America comparable laws to most European countries. But federalizing abortion law would be a huge mistake.
- The legal definition of when death begins is decided by each state. And those laws change as medical knowledge progresses. In 1981, many states worked together to create model legislation called the Uniform Determination of Death Act. 37 states decided to adopt it. And states are currently working together to update the law because medical knowledge has advanced since 1981.
- Laws regarding causing harm to humans, including murder, manslaughter, rape, assault, and similar crimes are also determined and enforced by the states. And the legal definitions and punishments for these types of crimes vary widely across the country.
- Under America’s federalist system, matters of life and death are not generally in the jurisdiction of the federal government. They are the responsibilities of each state. So, it is appropriate that abortion laws be decided by the states as well. We don’t need any more political polarization by having the federal government force a one-size-fits-all law across our country. I will fight to keep abortion policy in the state capitals where it belongs.
Trust "The Science"
- Summary
- Over the last few years, the left has told us that we must trust “the science”. But what they really want us to trust is their politicized version of science. It’s time to recommit ourselves to actual science and end the political corruption of it.
- Details
- The left has been corrupting science ever since the Marxists told us over 100 years ago that communism was “scientifically inevitable”. As always, today’s left is using “the science” to enhance their political power. Any disagreement with the left’s unscientific nonsense is met with a swift and harsh response. But factual observation and critical review are essential for scientific progress. We can no longer allow the left to corrupt science for political purposes and silence those who dissent. We must recommit ourselves to actual science and most importantly, the scientific method.
Racism and Antisemitism
- Racism and antisemitism are collectivist mentalities which judge people based on their perceived membership in a group rather than as individuals. There isn’t any room for racism or antisemitism in America.
Constitutional Rights
- Summary
- Our Constitutional Rights are under attack like never before. Some of the recent attacks are unprecedented in history, while others are just a continuation of the long battle between Americans and those that want to rob us of our liberties. We need a renewed commitment to the Bill of Rights if we are to remain a free, just, and peaceful society.
- Details
- America is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy, because there are areas of our society that are not subject to majority rule. Many, but not all, of those areas are articulated in the Bill of Rights. Many Americans have lost the understanding of why this is so important. Democracies allow majorities to violate the rights of minorities. Our Constitution was designed to prevent that. But the Constitution is just words on paper. It is meaningless unless a broad majority of Americans understands what it says and are willing to uphold its values. From slavery to segregation, that has not always been the case. Today, the Constitution is under direct assault like never before. If we are to remain a free, just, and peaceful society, we must make a renewed commitment to the Bill of Rights
- First Amendment
- Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
- Over the last few years, we have witnessed every imaginable federal agency colluding with the media and social media to censor speech that exposed the government’s propaganda. The assault on free speech and on freedom of the press is unprecedented in American history. We’ve also seen attacks on our right to peacefully assemble as federal law enforcement agencies targeted concerned moms who question government policies at schoolboard meetings. They’ve also pursued political prosecutions of the Jan 6th protestors, the overwhelming majority of whom were peaceful. In addition, there have also been assaults on freedom of religion from the government closing churches during the COVID fiasco to spying on traditional Catholics, who they label as “domestic terrorists”.
- More than anything else, the First Amendment defines America. It’s who we are. When it comes to political and religious speech, the First Amendment is absolute. There are no exceptions. It is intolerable that federal agencies have chosen to violate our First Amendment rights. And it is completely unacceptable that no one in the government has been held to account for their unconstitutional actions. As your next Congressmen, I will do whatever it takes to ensure that the people who perpetrated these injustices are held accountable for their actions. I will also work to ensure that it will never happen again.
- Second Amendment
- A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
- The Constitution is clear. Americans have a right to keep and bear arms. It’s also clear from the writings of the Founders, that the reference to the militia didn’t mean the government army. It refers to the entire population. And recent Supreme Court decisions have affirmed the right of individual Americans to own a firearm unconnected with service in a militia (District of Columbia vs. Heller - 2008) and carry firearms outside of their homes (New York State Rifle & Pistol Association vs. Bruen - 2022).
- Unfortunately, the tyrants are not going to stop trying to rob us of our rights. They will continue to chip away our rights by appealing to people’s emotions. For example, every time there is a mass shooting, the left starts screaming about how “assault rifles” are a huge problem. But more people are murdered each year with blunt instruments like baseball bats and hammers, than are killed with rifles. Yes, there are a lot of people who are killed with handguns. But half of them are suicides. We all agree that America has a mental health crisis that needs to be addressed. Many of the remaining handgun deaths are related to gang violence in the inner cities. The answer to those tragic deaths is reimposing law and order on the big cities. As your next Congressman, I will be the strongest proponent of the 2nd Amendment in the House of Representatives.
- Tenth Amendment
- The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States, respectively, or to the people.
- Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution grants Congress specific powers. The Tenth Amendment clearly states that any additional responsibilities are reserved for the States or the people. Unfortunately, the Constitution has been twisted beyond recognition by claiming that the General Welfare Clause, the Necessary and Proper Clause, and the Commerce Clause gives the Congress implied powers beyond those specifically articulated in the Constitution. Under that theory, Congress has virtually unlimited powers. The Founders would disagree. They created the Constitution to limit the powers of government to the responsibilities specifically articulated within the document. We need a multi-faceted approach to restoring our federalist system, including legislation to repeal the unconstitutional activities of the government, as well as Supreme Court decisions that uphold the 10th Amendment.[2]
