Ballotpedia provides comprehensive election coverage of the 100 largest cities in America by population as well as mayoral, city council, and district attorney election coverage in state capitals outside of the 100 largest cities. This judge is outside of that coverage scope and does not receive scheduled updates.

Eric Dirnbeck is a judge for the Second Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois. He was elected in 2012 to fill the vacancy of Judge E. Kyle Vantrease and his current term will expire in 2018.[1][2]

Elections

2012

Dirnbeck ran for election in 2012 to replace retired Judge E. Kyle Vantrease. Dirnbeck won the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012, receiving 27.91 percent of the vote in the five-way race. There were no candidates in the Republican primary and he ran unopposed in the November 6 general election to win the position. The results of the primary election were subject to an unusual situation, see below for more information.[3][4]

Kent Renshaw v. Eric Dirnbeck

In the 2012 2nd Circuit primary race Kent Renshaw was initially declared the winner, but late absentee ballots pushed Dirnbeck to victory. Renshaw then sued for a recount, but Dirnbeck was placed on the general election ballot anyway. The winner of the primary would have been unopposed in the general election and ensured the judgeship. On October 23, 2012, Judge John A. Speroni, who was presiding over the case, issued an order to suppress the November 6 election results and that no winner should be declared until the case is resolved. Dirnbeck eventually was declared the winner.[5][6][7]
