My family is established in the Neenah Joint School District, my wife and I are parents of a five-year-old who attends elementary school in the district and a younger son who will also attend in the future. My wife and I are active in the local community. I have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an M.B.A. from Purdue University and have worked as a quality engineer for the past decade.

I believe I am well equipped to bring a sense of calm to this non-partisan elected office. My education and experience as a quality engineer provide the opportunity to gather and interpret data, to focus on what is going well and evaluate opportunities for improvement. School Board is a non-partisan elected position for a reason. The focus should be continuously improving our schools and ensuring our District meets the needs of our community. I am open to new ideas and have no agenda except to make our schools strong at every level. We can do this by providing a warm and welcoming environment that builds upon the strengths that already exist in the Neenah Joint School District.

I am comfortable with responsibility. I’m prepared to do the work to benefit our schools, our children, and be accountable to the community. As a quality engineer I am process focused and detail driven. That skill-set would be used to drive improvement.
  • Reading proficiency is an issue of concern. According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction District Report Card, 41% of students are not reading proficiently at grade level. Reading is something that I personally struggled with, as I was diagnosed with dyslexia in high school. I support efforts to put more emphasis on evidence-based practice in to our district’s reading curriculum.
  • Teacher retention and recruitment are significant issues currently facing the district. Many teachers are leaving the profession and it is increasingly difficult to attract new talent to educate our children. I believe there are policies worth exploring that could improve the working environment for educators with minimal impact to the budget.
  • The district needs to continue to support mental health services to all students in the district and to provide a safe learning environment for all students and staff. The anti-bullying policies must be enforced and all students made aware of the reporting process. Anti-bullying and mental health and school safety go hand in hand.
Regarding the budget and funding for our schools, I would look to address the reasons that lead to students from our district to enroll in neighboring schools or districts, and build on reasons that attract more students into our district based on spaces available. This would bring more money into our district without increasing our property taxes.
Honesty, integrity, and transparency are the three most important characteristics of an elected official. All three are required to earn the trust of their constituents and be effective in their role. These are what I would always strive for if elected to the school board.
People who know me describe me as honest and detail oriented. As a Quality Engineer I try to see things around me in terms of processes and how to improve them to consistently get results that I want. I believe those are qualities that will help make me successful member of the Board of Education.
If I have the opportunity to serve on the board of education, I hope my legacy would be that of someone who worked for the benefit of the students, advocated on their behalf and helped them achieve better outcomes. Those are the reasons why I am running for this office and that is how I would measure my own success.
I believe the most important job of a school board member is to be an advocate for our students and to work to improve the outcomes for every student in the district. The nine-member Board of Education for the Neenah joint school district is responsible for setting policy for the district, approving the district’s budget and evaluating the District Administrator. I believe all of these responsibilities are important for our students’ outcomes.
The constituents of the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education include residents of City of Neenah, the towns of Neenah, Vinland, Clayton and the parts of Fox Crossing. Combined that is approximately 52,000 people. If elected I will be responsible for advocating for those students and accountable to the residents of those communities.
During my campaign I have hosted several listening sessions with the community, I’ve met with principals, I’ve gone to school events across the district. All of these activities have helped me reach out to our community. I have had the opportunity to hear many diverse viewpoints and learn things I would not have been able to otherwise. Being a parent also gives me a good perspective to see the impact of what the board does and help communicate that to others.
Open enrollment into the district is one of the few ways we can increase our budget. Since Act 16 was passed in 1993 the Neenah Joint School District was classified as a low spend district and capped our funding per student as the lowest in the state. This our budget can’t be increased except through budget referendum or enrolling more students into the district. As a district we need to look at ways of attracting more students into our district through open enrollment and address the reasons students living our district are attending schools outside our district. Doing that would help increase our budget and allow us to improve the education of students attending our schools.
What I have been hearing from parents throughout the campaign is that the majority of students feel safe in our schools. We have secured entry into all of our buildings to ensure no one is able to enter s who shouldn’t be there. Staff and students are well versed and practiced in all of our emergency drills.

One important thing we can do for safety is to enforce our anti-bullying policies and always work towards fostering an environment of inclusivity and belonging for every student. If we can have a cohesive student body, our students will be safer as a result.

Another very important issue is the mental health of our students. We need to make sure to work to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for our students such that everyone of them has a feeling of belonging in our schools.
Mental health is something we should always be paying attention to and putting available resources into. We need the help of our staff including social workers in our schools connect families with available resources. I support the district’s efforts to increase the number of social workers employed in our district. There is significant need within our communities, connecting families with resources can help students be better prepared and better regulated in schools, enabling them to learn better and face less disruptions.

I believe elected officials need to be transparent to show that they are using tax payer dollars efficiently. One of the primary responsibilities of the Board of Education is to approve the annual budget for the school district. This provides a black and white outline of the priorities endorsed by the board.
