My name is Eric Moran and I am running for the Minneapolis Park Board District 2 seat, which covers North Minneapolis & the North Loop. I have been a resident of North Minneapolis for six years, married for nearly 15 years, and my spouse and I have a six year old daughter. We frequently visit the parks as a family, and some of our favorite activities include canoeing, cycling, and trying to visit as many playgrounds as possible. I am a queer Latino, prefer to travel via bicycle or transit, and have worked in IT for over 20 years in both the public and private sector. I’m also an Eagle Scout, a member of the Streets.mn board, and have family members with accessibility issues.
My family and I love living in North Minneapolis. We have some of the city’s best parks and waterways, however North Minneapolis and the North Loop often remain unheard when it comes to representation in the greatest park system in the country. I want to be the representation that you deserve and hope you will support me in my endeavor.
Rent stabilization is key in helping prevent gentrification. If landlords can price out lower income folks from their homes and rental space we cannot prevent gentrification.
How does it impact the neighborhood and community where it is being built? What does the long-term environmental impact look like to the city? How are the neighbors being involved? What does this look like fiscally, both short and long-term?
As the park commissioner representing the city's Northside, it's imperative we do what we can to clean up the river and harm done by companies such as Northern Metals. As the city moves forward with the Upper Harbor Terminal we need to make sure that it is being built in a manner that not only preserves the heritage and beauty of the river, but undoes what was done to damage the river.
Additionally providing additional tree cover and restoring our wetlands to their original status will help with this climate crisis we are in. We cannot keep our lands as a status quo going forward if we want to make a dent in this climate crisis.
A better community can help take care of itself, and by providing youth with good paying jobs within our communities we can help start that process. Youth employment means that issues that normally would be escalated to police can potentially be resolved by park employees.

If the candidate disagrees with an edit, he or she may request the full removal of the survey response from Ballotpedia.org. Note: Community Questions were submitted by the public and chosen for inclusion by a volunteer advisory board. The chosen questions were modified by staff to adhere to Ballotpedia’s neutrality standards. To learn more about Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection Expansion Project, click here.
