I moved to Oregon 5 & 1/2 years ago with my wife and daughter. I am a family man and a business owner. As a Libertarian I support Small Government with the least involvement in all aspects of citizens lives. While I was young my family relied on government assistance to make it. I believe there are ways our government can improve to help the citizens more.I started working at a young age. I have taken over 150 credit hours of college classes in varying areas of study. I believe we need more accountability from the top down to create a sustainable future for our children. I believe I can be part of the solution to making Oregon a better place to live.
- We need proper care of our forrests and land use to help preven forrest fires.
- We need more financial responsibility of the government to better our care of the citizens.
- We need people who will work to secure our constitutional fredoms.
We need to clean up how government runs and operates currently to allow for a more efficient way of handling tax revenue. This would allow the government to help the citizens where they actually need help. We need to reevaluate the cliff system we currently have in our welfare program. We need to re work it where families can work toward getting off government assistance instead of keeping them perpetually on it. We need to return responsibility and control of ones life back to the citizens. We need to stop making policies that only take things away from or impose restrictions on the people. We need to promote environmentally sound policies. These policies should help citizens be able to choose more friendly environmental impacts and not force decisions upon the people.
One person alone is not enough for this question. I look up to the many brave men and women that have impacted the foundation and continuation of our country. While all people have flaws, it is these people I would like to follows example. They had the courage to stand up for what was needed in the time it was needed. I would like to follow their example by being part of the solution to the problems we face.
I have the ability to listen to all sides of an argument and even when I do not agree, find a way to come to some common ground. I am patient when I need to be. I do not assume I am always right. I understand that I don't know what I don't know but am willing to learn what I need.
Making sure bills being passed are helping the agencies spending our citizen's money do it effectively and efficiently.
I remember the fall of the Berlin wall. That happened in 1989 when I was 8 years old. While other important things had happened, that is the first one I know I remember from it happening, and not just hearing about it in the years that followed.
My favorite book is Enders Game. It helps know that understanding more of life requires passion.
We need a relationship with the governor and legislature that is a 2 way street. The legislature should be able to call out the governor and their administrative offices for not enforcing the laws the way the legislature intended. At the same time the governor should be able to come to the legislature with problems or issues with how laws are written that hinder the best services. This allows laws to have the positive impact on the citizens like the government should.
Our state has many challenges to overcome in the next decade. We have an ever growing housing shortage. We need to find a way to help our citizens have a safe affordable place to live. We need to reevaluate our forest lands. We are continuing to do the same things when caring for our lands, but the fact that we keep having large deadly forest fires shows we are not necessarily doing what is needed. We need to help our citizens with food security. We need to look at our ability to feed our state. We need to not rely on importing foods when we can grow some of that here in our state leading to faster more nutritious foods getting to our citizens. We need to work on the safety of the citizens. We need to include in the safety more mental health options for adults and children in need. We also need to hold the judiciary system accountable when it comes to upholding our laws.
The only benefit I see is laws can be passed easier without as many people trying to tie on unnecessary things. The major drawback is there are no checks and balances. Without checks and balances we miss the opportunity to be better financial stewards with the citizen's money.
Absolutely not. I believe the life long politicians are the reason our government is in the shambles they are today. They have lost sight of what the government is supposed to be doing and are caught up in the quid pro quo game. While new people may not be used to "the way the system works", it would allow us to see the weaknesses of our government system. I believe if we only allow those with government and political history in we fall into the how do I get my first job if everyone wants you to have experience scenario, which will potentially keep true change from ever occurring.
Yes and no. We need to be able to have relationships that allow for open communication so that we can come to a common ground and get things passed. We do not need relationships that require a person to vote a particular way or support a particular thing. We need to do what is in the interest of the people we represent, not what someone else tells us to do.
I would like to be a part of the education, energy and environment, healthcare, natural resources and wildfire recovery, human services, mental health and recovery, and housing and development.
No, I want to break the mold and focus on doing what is best the state and the citizens in it.
From talking with so many constituents and citizens of the state of Oregon I could not pick one as the most impactful to make me want to run for office.
Yes administrative agencies are not elected by the people and should not have the authority to order citizens around.
Absolutely. We need more compromise to get things done. But, I also believe compromise should not degrade ones values. We need all sides to come together in order to make things happen.
