Simpson provided the following statement on his campaign website:
“ | My small business and managerial experience would make me an excellent complement to the existing school board. I’m really good at managing a budget, and that’s crucial in the school system where there’s a constant struggle to allocate funds for worthy programs. I think I could suggest some innovative, “outside-the-box” thinking that would help us maximize the value of our school dollars
Furthermore, as an engineer and employee of a top technology company, I am a strong proponent of STEM programs within the district. I believe that these disciplines lead to strong technical skills, creativity, innovation, and ample career opportunities for today’s students. Volunteerism I also have a long history of volunteer commitment to the school district. I have volunteered as a track coach at Sunset High School for 18 years now, logging close to 3,000 hours so far. In addition, I’m an annual guest lecturer for marketing classes at Sunset, and I have been a Math tutor at Sunset for athletes who are struggling with the subject. It gives me great satisfaction to give back to my school, and the Beaverton School Board position would extend my opportunities to make a difference in the lives of students Objectives as a Parent Finally, I approach this role from the perspective of a parent. My wife is also a graduate of the Beaverton school district (Beaverton HS), and she is proud of that lineage. In fact, it was her high school Biology teacher who influenced her to choose her career as a Genetics doctor. Our children are still very young (ages 3 years and 8 months), but we chose to live in the Beaverton school district so that our kids could attend the schools that helped shape us as adults. I want to help influence the strategic direction of the district so that the schools will remain strong for my children, as well as for many generations to come.[3] |
