Eric lived for 28 years in NE Salem working as bilingual teacher in the Salem-Keizer School district at Highland, Grant and Whiteaker Middle School and served on the Salem Public Library Board and the Salem Area Mass Transit Board of Directors. During that time he received a Master’s in Public Administration from Lewis & Clark College.
In Woodburn Eric worked as a middle and high school principal and served on the Parks and Recreation Board, the City Budget Committee and the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce and Woodburn Rotary Boards of Directors. As the Woodburn’s Mayor he guided the city through the past two years working as a bridge across cultures, languages, political parties, social strata and religious affiliations - and can be that kind of bridge in the Oregon State Senate.
- Eric understands how precarious our environment is - and is committed to being part of Oregon’s bold leadership to preserve and sustain our most precious resource. “Oregon’s been an environmental leader from the bottle bill to public beaches - and we need to continue to be that leader for our country and our world.”
- We need an economy that works for everyone. As a teacher and a principal Eric spent time with thousands of students and saw first hand their families struggle economically with housing, health care and just making a living - realities that hard working families should not have to face. Centering the voices of those closest to the issues, Eric will advocate for housing and health care that is affordable, living wage jobs and in a forward thinking economy.
- As the Mayor of Woodburn during trying times Eric worked hard to be a bridge across cultures, languages, political parties, social strata and religious affiliations can be that kind of bridge in the Oregon State Senate.
As a former teacher, principal and school board member Eric will advocate to make our schools more meaningful for students in ways that foster their interests and give them real world skills and value of all the professions, not just the ones that come out of colleges.
