am Eric Van Buren, a community advocate, nonprofit founder, and returning citizen running for the Maryland State Senate in District 2. I served nearly two decades in federal prison, where I became a certified paralegal, mediator, and behavioral therapist. Since returning home, I have worked in reentry, violence interruption, and community education. My campaign is focused on accountability, local investment, and making government work for people who feel unseen.
  • Accountability over politics. If an elected official campaigns on a promise, they should be held accountable to deliver. I believe voters deserve more than slogans—they deserve results, transparency, and leadership that answers directly to the community.
  • Community-first solutions. Public safety, economic growth, and education work best when communities have a real voice. I support balanced public safety, workforce development, and investments that strengthen families, small businesses, and local neighborhoods—urban and rural alike.
  • Opportunity changes outcomes. I am proof that access to education, rehabilitation, and opportunity can change lives. I will fight for policies that expand opportunity—especially for young people, working families, and returning citizens—so everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
am passionate about public policies that restore dignity, opportunity, and accountability to everyday life. That means investing in education that prepares our kids for real careers, public safety that prevents harm before it happens, and healthcare that treats access as a right—not a privilege. I care deeply about economic fairness: supporting small businesses, protecting working families, and ensuring local communities benefit from growth—not just outside interests. And I am committed to justice policies that recognize redemption, strengthen families, and make our communities safer and stronger together. Government should work for the people who show up every day and do their part.
