Wargotz ran for election to the Orphans Court of Queen Anne’s County.
Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 17.2 percent of the vote. He competed against Barry Donadio, Steve Hoofnagle, Penelope A. Keating, Richard "Dick" Smith, Kim Calvert, and incumbent Judges Joseph V. DiPietro and Kimberly Jean Cascia. Primary candidates competed for 3 seats. 
General: He faced Stan Ruddie, and incumbent judges, Thomas M. Walsh, Kimberly Jean Cascia, and Joseph V. DiPietro in the general election on November 4, 2014, and won with 22.8 percent of the vote. Candidates competed for three open seats. [1][3]

Wargotz considered running in the 2012 election for the U.S. Senate, representing Maryland. Wargotz would have been seeking the nomination on the Republican ticket.[4] Ultimately, he decided not to run and challenge incumbent Ben Cardin.[5]
