Eric Zeece is the former acting director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. Zeece was appointed by Gov. Pete Ricketts in October 2015 to replace former Director Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, who was dismissed by the governor over concerns about her ability to effectively market the state.[1]

After Courtney Dentlinger was selected as Hick-Sorensen's successor, Zeece resumed his duties as chief performance officer and deputy director of the department.[2]

Zeece began working in the Nebraska Department of Economic Development in 2010 as the manager of its business innovation program. In September 2015, he was named chief performance officer and deputy director of the department. He previously worked in the energy industry for a number of different companies, including XCel Energy and Midwest Energy Inc.[2]

In October 2015, Zeece was named Acting Director of the Department of Economic Development by Gov. Pete Ricketts. He served until January of 2016, when Gov. Ricketts appointed Courtney Dentlinger to fill the role.

About the office

The Nebraska Director of Economic Development is a state executive position in the Nebraska state government which oversees the state's Department of Economic Development (DED).

Created in 1967, the DED's goal is to encourage economic growth within the state of Nebraska. To do this, the director assists business owners to create and expanding businesses within the state, strengthening community-based development initiatives, and compiling relevant economic data to assist in state decision-making. The director is also responsible for attracting businesses to the state of Nebraska and promoting trade.[3]

Gov. Ricketts appointed Zeece to serve as Acting Nebraska Director of Economic Development in October 2015, filling the role previously held by Brenda Hicks-Sorensen. Hicks-Sorensen was dismissed over concerns about her ability to effectively market the state to business owners.[1]
