Candidate Connection

Eric Zmrhal participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 5, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Eric Zmrhal's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Secure our borders

2) Balance the federal budget
3) Establish term limits on Senators and Representatives[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Border security and balancing the budget. As a resident of Texas, I am greatly concerned about the continual trafficking activities that occur through our border. Weapons, drugs, money and worst of all- people are being trafficked into and through our state. This needs to stop. Houston is a hotspot for trafficking activities because it has 2 major airports, the nation’s second busiest port and highways that can lead all across the state. Securing our border is necessary for our national security, for our economy, for controlling drug and weapon activity and most importantly, for the safety of our citizens. I am a fiscal conservative and believe that we cannot continue down this perilous path of uncontrollable government spend and waste. Congress is not spending taxpayer money wisely and it is time we hold our elected officials responsible for their recklessness. In just 8 years from now, the interest owed on our debt will be more than what we spend on defense or any discretionary program. Our leaders in Washington fight and argue over trivial matters while they continue to spend our money without seeing any repercussion. It is time we get this country’s budget back in order. Our first step should be electing someone who is willing make difficult decisions to get this country back on the right track.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Eric Zmrhal answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Integrity, passion, determination and resolve.[4]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I have the energy and the passion to deliver results. I am steadfast in my principles and will not compromise my ethics and virtue. I am dedicated and determined in solving problems and I will bring that mentality to Washington.[4]
What are your thoughts on term limits?
I support term limits for Senators and Representatives (12 years maximum).[4]
