I'm Erik Fanning, born in Detroit but raised in Wisconsin.

I've been married to my wonderful wife and best friend since 2006. We moved into our Wauwatosa fixer-upper in 2014, and our brilliant kiddo is a freshman at Wauwatosa West High School. We enjoy many facets of living in Tosa, and look forward to enjoying many more years in our hometown.

After serving honorably in the US Navy out of High School, I've spent most of my adult life working in customer service, from banquet serving, fine dining, and bartending to retail sales and personnel management. I currently work as a Commercial Property Manager.

In addition to the many professional skills I've attained in the past three decades, I have always enjoyed helping people, and believe that my talents, my passion for politics, and my temperament are all well-suited for public service.

I look forward to serving my fellow District 8 residents as their Alder for the next two years.
  • Reconnecting residents with City Hall. 9 out of 10 residents I speak with can't name either of our two current Alders. This is unacceptable. Public servants should be encouraging, not discouraging, public engagement on key issues such as housing, public safety, and sustainability. I will work cooperatively with District 8 residents to come up with ways we can improve the lives of all Wauwatosans.
  • Improve pedestrian walkability and access. Bluemound Country Club moved in across the street from my current home in 1924. 100 years later there is still no sidewalk on that side of Burleigh Street. I have spent years advocating for a sidewalk connecting the Menomonee Parkway to Mayfair Road using this route, to no avail. There are many similar instances throughout our city, and I will advocate for such improvements.
  • Help our city find, fund, and build world-class affordable housing for senior residents, families, and young adults. Less that 20% of our city's workforce lives in Wauwatosa. I want to live in a city where affordable housing options are still within the economic reach of working-class families, senior residents looking to downsize, and young workers alike. It can be done to the satisfaction of all stakeholders, but new and creative ideas are necessary to avoid past mistakes. I believe I can help in this area, and look forward to the challenge.
I believe sustainable community development will be a key factor in municipalities of all sizes as our society evolves.

In Wauwatosa, we must continue to further develop our city while ensuring that the work we're doing is on a path that will remain sustainable 20 to 30 to 50 years from today. I look forward to accomplishing this with the help of city residents as well as developers.
As a member of the Wauwatosa Common Council, I would be writing and passing our city's ordinances.
Honesty, transparency, and dedication to their sworn duty.
Serving district residents as their liason with City Hall while also introducing, debating, and voting on city business.
Restaurant dishwasher. I stayed through summer break.
As a member of the Wauwatosa Common Council, I would be writing and passing our city's ordinances.
Politics yes, government not so much. Legal experience is probably also quite helpful.
Emotional IQ and related people-skulls, problem-solving, outside-the-box thinking, and the ability to remain calm in times of crisis.
