Erin K. Hunter served as acting West Virginia insurance commissioner. She was appointed to the position by Governor Jim Justice (R), effective January 25, 2019, and served until the new insurance commissioner took office on March 4, 2019.[1]

Biography

Hunter began working as general counsel of the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner on March 31, 2018. She joined the office in 2012 as a staff attorney in the department's Regulatory Compliance and Enforcement Division.[1]

Hunter obtained designation as a Professional, Academy of Healthcare Management (PAHM) through America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and received a certificate in insurance regulation through The Institutes.[1]

Hunter was appointed to serve as acting West Virginia insurance commissioner, beginning January 25, 2019. She succeeded Commissioner Allan McVey, who served as commissioner from 2017 to 2019. She served until the new commissioner took office on March 4, 2019.[1]

Appointments

The West Virginia commissioner of insurance is an appointed position in West Virginia. The governor nominates a candidate to the state Senate, and the Senate confirms the nominee. The incumbent serves at the will and pleasure of the governor for the term for which the governor was elected and remains in office until their successor has been appointed and qualified. The commissioner's initial appointment is for a period of six years.[2]

Hunter was appointed to serve as acting West Virginia insurance commissioner in January 2019 by Governor Jim Justice (R).[1]
