Hussein's campaign website listed the following priorities:

  • NYC needs comprehensive land use reform.
  • New buildings should be human scale, green and fit into their surroundings.
  • Neighborhoods should have a leading role in their own future.
  • Landlords should choose to lease a storefront at a lower rate rather than leave it empty.
  • Schools and hospitals should be built before new residential units.
  • Seniors have a right to age in place.
  • Housing should be affordable for the 40% of New Yorkers living near or below the poverty line.
  • The rent stabilization cap must be raised.
  • There are many roots of homelessness, and we can address all of them.
  • Domestic abuse is a leading cause of homelessness of women and children.
  • The 24,000 homeless students in city schools need specialized support to remain in school and break the cycle of poverty.
  • Every child deserves to go to a school located close to home.
  • Parents of a special needs child must have easier access to services for their child.
  • CHARAS/PS 64 should be returned to our neighborhood to become a school and community center.
  • Rikers should be replaced by a secure, state-of-the-art jail that meets human rights standards.
  • The NYPD Right to Know Act should be passed by the City Council.
  • Pedestrians and bike riders deserve to be safe from death and bodily injury when using our City's streets.
  • The IDC in Albany should be disbanded.
  • Our city government must do everything possible to protect our residents from the negative effects of federal politics.[4]
