|I was raised in a union household where the importance of both service and hard work were emphasized regularly. My dad, Gary Cullum, is a distinguished Army veteran who fought bravely in the Vietnam War. He is a retiree of Local 50 of The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry.
I am a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Toledo. In my professional life, I am the director of admissions at Owens Community College. I work with students from around northwest Ohio who are seeking high-quality, affordable education that will transform their lives. I believe in the power of education to change lives and I am dedicated to creating opportunities that empower individuals to reach their full potential.- A top priority is decreasing the rampant gun violence in the city. I have been active in the gun violence prevention movement in the city since 2017. I served as a local lead for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; in that role, I volunteered with a dedicated group of volunteers from around the region to encourage the safe storage of guns as well as legislation to keep Ohioans safe from illegally obtained guns. I have lobbied legislators in Columbus and helped plan events in Toledo while also supporting community partners who are committed to the same goals of gun safety.
- I am passionate about growing the city's population which has been steadily decreasing for many years. Toledo has so much to offer including affordable housing, a rich cultural history, and a hardworking, welcoming community. But to truly thrive, we need to focus on attracting and retaining new residents who want to build their lives here. That means investing in quality public services, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities for young people and families to succeed. When we make Toledo a place where people want to stay and choose to move, we grow not just our population—but our potential. When I am elected to City Council, I will champion policies that make Toledo a place people are proud to call home.
- Through my advocacy work, I have had the opportunity to meet people who live in every area of the city. When I am elected to Council, I want to work with the other Council members on neighborhood improvement initiatives. Every neighborhood in Toledo should be clean, safe, and full of opportunity. Too often, investment is uneven and certain communities are left behind. I believe in a Toledo where no matter what zip code you live in, you can count on well-maintained streets, quality housing, responsive city services, and public spaces that bring people together. On City Council, I will fight for equitable investment across all neighborhoods so that every resident feels seen, heard, and supported.
