Erin is a mom, teacher, and community safety advocate who is running for the Minnesota House of Representatives in northern Lakeville. Erin believes that all Minnesotans deserve to live in safe and healthy communities, have access to affordable healthcare and prescription medication, earn a livable wage, and to protect our natural resources. She knows that fully funding our public schools will draw new families to Lakeville, keep our property values high, help our children succeed, and make Lakeville an outstanding city for families.

Why I’m running: As a teacher in our public schools and as a parent with young children, I've seen first hand the struggles our community has faced over the past two years. I’ve seen that public policy has a real effect on our schools, our families, and our finances. And I know that when politicians play political games at the capitol, it hurts real families here at home.

We deserve better. We deserve a leader in our community who will truly listen to parents, taxpayers, and educators. Over the course of the pandemic, I’ve had thousands of conversations with community members in Lakeville. I’m ready to bring those voices to St. Paul and to fight for working families.
  • Our schools are a huge part of what makes Lakeville a great community. Unfortunately, public education has been underfunded for decades. In addition to budget cuts, the legislature continually passes unfunded mandates which means we have to pull from our general education fund to cover the costs. By fully funding schools, we could lower class sizes, hire more reading and math tutors, supply curricular and educational materials that are often paid for by teachers out-of-pocket, and increase the number of school counselors and educational support professionals. We also should expand access to broadband internet so all students can learn online.
  • Gun violence is a public health epidemic and we must do more to protect our children and our communities. Gun violence is currently the #1 cause of death for children in the US. I’ve been a long-time advocate of gun safety legislation, including background checks on all gun sales, red flag/emergency protective orders, and safe storage laws. These laws have been proven to save lives and do not infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners.
  • The government should not interfere in our most personal decisions. Women should have control over their own reproductive health, not politicians. I would want to codify access to abortion in the State Constitution so we don’t again experience the consequences of a court case being overturned. Women are at risk when they don’t have access to the full spectrum of pregnancy care. We’re now the only state in the region that can provide this healthcare, and we’ll need leaders who will support overworked clinics.

We could do so much to make Minnesota a better place to live. I would prioritize making healthcare accessible and affordable and bring down the price of prescriptions. I would ensure our students get the world class education they deserve by fully funding our schools, which would also reduce the need for local tax levies. I would work for targeted tax relief for middle income workers, families, and seniors. I support funding police and getting first responders the resources they need, while also enacting proactive crime prevention programs. And we could pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation that would make our schools and our communities safer.

Erin Preese is running for the Minnesota House of Representatives from Lakeville, District 58A. As a mom, a teacher, and a gun violence prevention advocate, Erin has the passion, energy, and experience to work across the aisle for common sense solutions. We need leaders like Erin who will work to end partisan gridlock and to create solutions that address the real issues Minnesota's working families face. Erin believes we all deserve access to affordable healthcare and prescription drugs, high quality public schools, and common sense gun safety laws to protect our children and communities.
  • All children deserve access to a high quality public education.
  • Everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy community.
  • Everyone deserves access to affordable healthcare and prescription medications.
Erin is a teacher at an elementary school in Lakeville and is proud to send her own children to Lakeville Public Schools. She knows that our excellent public schools draw new families to Lakeville, keep our property values high, help our children succeed, and make Lakeville an outstanding city for families.

Erin believes that all children should have access to high quality public schools and should be able to grow up in a safe and healthy community. Erin understands the concerns that working families deal with on a day to day basis, and these concerns will be at the front of her mind in the legislature.
