Campaign website
Welsh's campaign website stated the following:
Equity
Equity is a fundamental value that guides my work and decision-making. Equity ensures all individuals in Dane County have access to the resources and opportunities they need to live and thrive in our community. This value is especially critical when addressing Dane County’s affordable housing and mental health needs.
To be equitable, our affordable housing strategy must prioritize investment in options and essential services for individuals and families experiencing the highest need.
Equity in mental healthcare means increasing access to a range of services, from crisis intervention to long-term care; ensuring services are culturally responsive to meet the needs of all Dane County communities; and strengthening partnerships with local community organizations.
Inclusion
Inclusion is about creating a community where everyone feels a true sense of belonging, where diverse perspectives are celebrated, and where every individual has the opportunity to contribute, thrive, be heard, and feel valued.
Fostering inclusion is about ensuring that all Dane County residents see themselves as valued members of our community. To do that, we must ensure that services are tailored to meet the unique needs of our diverse communities. This means offering services in multiple languages, collaborating with culturally-specific community organizations, removing barriers that prevent marginalized groups from accessing resources, and empowering youth to feel safe and proud of their identities.
Sustainability
As stewards of our natural resources, we must prioritize the preservation of Dane County’s lakes and waterways, which are not only beautiful, but vital to our ecosystem, economy, and quality of life. Through thoughtful land-use planning, forward-thinking preservation efforts, and reduction of carbon emissions, we can safeguard these precious resources.
Sustainability is not just an environmental priority, though. It is central to building a resilient, thriving community for generations to come. This value also drives my commitment to a regional housing strategy that ensures access to affordable housing options across Dane County and prioritizes long-term options for the unhoused.
