Ernest A. Finney, Jr.
Ernest A. Finney, Jr. was an associate justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court from 1985 to 1994. He served as the court's chief justice from 1994 until his retirement in 2000.
Finney was the first black South Carolina chief justice since Reconstruction. He was also the first black man to serve the South Carolina Circuit Courts when he took the bench in 1976.[1]
Finney passed away in 2017.[2]
