Ernest L. Ortega is a judge on the Taos County Magistrate Court, Division 1, in New Mexico. He is a Democrat. He was appointed to the position in January 2006 by Governor Bill Richardson.[1] He was re-elected in 2014 for a term that expires on December 31, 2018.[2]

Education
Ortega received his bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico.[1]
Career
Prior to his judicial appointment, Ortega was a spokesperson for the New Mexico Secretary of State. He has also served as the director of pre-trial services for John Paternoster of the Eighth Judicial District Attorney's Office.[1]
