Recall reports

An effort in St. Louis County, Missouri, to recall County Councilman Ernie Trakas (R) from his position did not go to a vote.[1]

The recall effort was launched in June 2017. A group called Voices of District 6 filed as a political action committee on June 9, 2017, and announced plans for a signature drive.[2]

Recall supporters

Voices of District 6 said it sought Trakas' removal for the following reasons:[2]

• Failure to comprehend and/or adhere to the county Charter.

• Lack of basic understanding of local governance.

• Abuse of power.

• Contentious behavior toward St. Louis County employees, appointees and elected officials.

• Repeated unwarranted disruption and/or delay of the zoning approval process, causing financial hardship to business owners and impeding economic development.[3]

Recall opponents

Trakas told local media that he believed the recall effort was initiated by former legislative assistant Carmen Wilkerson and Rob McManus. McManus' construction company had been blocked by the council from moving his business into the former Tee Time Family Fun Center lot. Trakas also argued that his decisions were based on the interests of residents rather than businesses.[2]
