Errol Louis is a CNN contributor and local news anchor at NY1 News, a cable news station in New York, N.Y. He has been active in print and broadcast journalism since 1998 and is director of urban reporting at The City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism.[1]
Career
Education
Errol Louis earned a B.A. in government from Harvard in 1984. He went on to earn an M.A. in political science from Yale University in 1989 and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2005.[1]
Print journalism
After losing a city council race in 1997, Louis turned to journalism. In 1998, he became a columnist for Our Time Press, a local news outlet based in Brooklyn, N.Y. He worked for the organization until 2006. In 2002, Louis became associate editor of The New York Sun, a New York, N.Y., newspaper. He worked there until 2004.[2][1][3]
When Louis left The New York Sun, he became a columnist for the New York Daily News in June 2004. He remained at the newspaper and served on the editorial board until November 2010.[1][4]
Teaching
Louis became an adjunct professor in the journalism department at Long Island University in 2006. He left that position in 2010 and became director of urban reporting at The City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism in January 2011. According to his university profile, Louis has previously taught at "the Pratt Institute, Hunter College, Long Island University, and New York University."[1][4]
Broadcast journalism
From June 2008 to November 2010, Louis hosted a morning radio show for WWRL, a station in New York. He became a CNN contributor in 2008. The Village Voice newspaper in New York named Louis the best newspaper columnist/radio show host in 2010. Since 2010, Louis has been the host of "Inside City Hall," a nightly show about politics in New York that airs on the NY1 News cable news channel.[1][5][2]
CNN reported that Louis would be among the moderators for the ninth democratic debate of the 2016 presidential election held on April 14, 2016.[6]
