Esmeralda Diaz (California)
Esmeralda Diaz was a candidate for the Trustee Area 3 seat on the Fresno Unified School District Board of Education in California. She ran against one incumbent in the general election on November 4, 2014.[1] Diaz was defeated by incumbent Valerie Florentino Davis.
Diaz ran unsuccessfully for the Trustee Area 2 seat in 2012.
Biography
Diaz was born and raised in Mexico. She graduated from medical school and worked as a physician for a decade before she had children. She has also been certified to work on taxes and worked for the Internal Revenue Service. Diaz has served as president of the Burroughs Elementary English Learner Advisory Committee and as president of the District English Learners Advisory Committee. She and her husband have two children.[2]

2014
Four seats on the Fresno Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. In the Trustee Area 1 race, incumbent Cal Johnson faced three challengers, Debbie J. Darden, Christiansen L. Flemming and Charles Watkins "Muhammad", and won his bid for re-election. Trustee Area 3 incumbent Valerie Florentino Davis ran against one challenger, Esmeralda Diaz. Davis also won her bid for re-election. In Trustee Area 4, incumbent Christopher de la Cerda ran unopposed and won re-election by default. No incumbents filed to run for the Trustee Area 7 seat, leaving the race to candidates Brooke Ashjian and Ruben V. Martinez. Ashjian defeated Martinez to win a seat on the board.
