Campaign themes

2014

Castillo highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:

My goal as an ACSD Governing Board member will be to build a bridge between what research tells us about how to improve our schools, and what we as parents, educators, community members and homeowners want to see for our children and neighborhoods.

I am running for ACSD Governing Board because as parents, my husband and I, with children in both ACSD and AUHSD, understand that parents are stakeholders in the education of our children and that the voice of parents, educators and community members must be heard and encouraged.

As an educator, I teach university courses to future teachers, young adults and working professionals. Through these experiences, I recognize the connection that elementary school education has with our children’s future and career trajectories, as well as the negative effects failing schools have on children, adults and their communities.

Some of the Issues:

-3 open seats on the ACSD Board is an opportunity for change in perspectives and communication styles Transparency within the ACSD board decision-making process where meetings are recorded or televised

-Programs that encourage and support Parent, Teacher and Community Involvement with Administration on ACSD decision-making

-Increase of in-class resources for teachers and students at EACH school site

-Maintenance and improvement of current programs and their availability for each one of our students at each one of our schools[2]
