Campaign website

Maharg's campaign website stated the following:

Pro Life

Ethel is pro-life, without exception, from conception to natural death. Ethel wears it like a badge of honor, it is who she is. Ethel believes in LIFE.

It’s unnerving to hear Progressive Democrats and their liberal allies refer to “reproductive rights” as the right to end life. Ethel believes everyone is entitled to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and will push back against and defeat the Progressive Democrats’ radical abortion and assisted suicide agenda.

Jobs

To bring jobs to New Mexico we must capitalize on our strengths. No one wants to bring a new business with good jobs to a state where politicians and elected officials complain about being at the top of the bad lists. Ethel believes it’s time to stop complaining and start working. New Mexico must capitalize on our strengths.

Our strengths include our farmers and ranchers who help feed the nation. Our strengths include the oil and gas industry who help fund our education system.

Growing up on a farm in Cuba – where Ethel’s father grew alfalfa and raised cattle – she knows the importance of New Mexico’s farmers and ranchers. Ethel’s dad had to sell a lot of cows to pay for his kids to go to college. Working in the oil and gas industry is how she bought her first car.

Our farmers and ranchers and our oil and gas industry are important to the financial well-being of our state and its people. It’s a partnership and Ethel will bridge that gap.

As a former business owner, Ethel believes tax credits should be given to those producing the greatest wealth instead of the Hollywood elites with agendas to transform our state into a socialist society.

Ethel wants to see New Mexico’s small communities thrive just as much as our large cities. To put New Mexico on the road to improving our economy and creating new jobs for New Mexicans Ethel proposes establishing a Governor’s Regulatory Reform Task Force which will review current rules and regulations and identify opportunities to eliminate unnecessary regulations.

Improving Education

While there have been many proposals to “fix” New Mexico’s public education issues, none have been successful. Many of these proposals involve more money. Ethel believes “throwing money at the problem” is not a solution.

Ethel believes teachers should be able to teach. The politics of the day should not dictate how or what they teach. Students should be taught reading, writing, arithmetic, the true history of our country, and the Constitution. Students should be given the opportunity to learn a trade if they don’t plan to attend college. Students should be taught how to think, not what to think. Students should be taught health sciences, not sex ed. Critical Race Theory has no place in our schools. We need education, not indoctrination.

Ethel believes parents should be able to send their children to the school that best fits their child’s needs. Ensuring educational funds follow the student rather than school systems will open choice to all students, not just the wealthy.

Voucher programs are nothing new, the idea was first proposed in 1955 by Milton Friedman.

Even the liberal Washington, DC has a private school choice voucher program.

Vouchers are not the only option that should be offered. We should learn from those already having success with private school choice. Florida offers parents several options including vouchers, along with many scholarship options.

To improve educational opportunity in New Mexico we must expand school choice to include private school choice. Vouchers, tax credits, scholarships, educational savings accounts are all methods that should be included to give students better educational opportunities.

Second Amendment

Growing up in a rural part of our state, Ethel understands there are many who hunt. Growing up on a farm in Cuba, Ethel understands firearms are tools, she understands the importance of our Second Amendment. Ethel will end the assault on our Second Amendment.

Supporting Police & The Rule of Law

While serving as Mayor of Cuba Ethel fought against defunding the police before “Defund the Police” became the mantra of the Democrats. When the Democrats on Council refused to fund the hiring of a new police chief, as Mayor, Ethel followed the letter of the law, asked for the keys to the chief’s car, and appointed herself acting police chief until council finally caved and funded the position.

Without respect for the law – no society can exist. Ethel will always respect our law enforcement community! Respect for the Rule of Law means we must secure our southern border immediately. We must end sanctuary state policies and encourage and promote cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.[2]
