A Rhode Island native, certified public accountant, and community leader, Evan Lemoine was born in Woonsocket and attended public schools before attending Johnson & Wales University in Providence. His background includes working at both a small CPA firm in Rhode Island to one of the global Big Four accounting firms. Currently, he works as an auditor for a property & casualty insurance carrier and manages a part-time CPA firm in Providence. He loves teaching others and when he has time, he teaches accounting courses to undergraduate and graduate students at several different colleges and universities. Evan is involved in countless professional associations and civic organizations where he tries to use his background and skills as an officer or board member.
  • ECONOMY. Now, more than ever, we need new thinking in how we solve some of our most complex problems over the promises of career politicians. As a CPA, I understand the needs of our small businesses and want to make sure we create good paying jobs in the state. We need to strengthen our social safety net, increase minimum wage and index it to inflation, and prioritize an economy that can truly grow our middle class.
  • EDUCATION. We must prioritize investments in education, job training, and career and technical education programs. We deserve an education system that provides students a fair chance to succeed and supports the skilled labor needed for the future regardless of their family's income or zip code. We also need to stop the train of high school and college graduates who leave this state for lack of job opportunities - I was one of them, and nothing has changed a decade later.
  • ETHICAL GOVERNMENT. We need an ethical, open, and transparent government that doesn't make its biggest decisions behind closed doors. Many Rhode Islanders have lost trust in their government to provide basic services because they know access to officials is reserved for the political establishment. I will be an advocate for the people who want meaningful change.
The three key messages of my campaign are my primary passionate issues as those are represented in my career as an accountant, auditor, fraud examiner, and educator.

Equality is the fourth big pillar of my campaign and most personal to me. As an openly gay candidate, the LGBT community has a whole host of issues around discrimination, harassment, lack of access to health services, and homelessness that still remain prevalent. That extends of course beyond the LGBT community to many others through the lens of racial justice and equity, so we have so much more work that we need to do. We must continue to actively fight bigotry, racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. Every human should be treated with dignity and respect.
