Exeter Measure P was on the ballot as a referral in Exeter on November 3, 2020. It was approved.

A “yes” vote supported authorizing an additional sales tax of 1% generating an estimated $800,000 per year for general services including emergency response, public safety, crime prevention, street repair, local businesses, parks, youth and senior services, thereby increasing the total sales tax rate in Exeter from 7.75% to 8.75%.

A “no” vote opposed authorizing an additional sales tax of 1% generating an estimated $800,000 per year for general services including emergency response, public safety, crime prevention, street repair, local businesses, parks, youth and senior services, thereby leaving the existing total sales tax rate in Exeter at 7.75%.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Measure P.

Ballot title

The ballot title for Measure P was as follows:

To protect Exeter’s long-term financial stability; maintain 911 emergency response; keep the community safe; prevent crime; repair streets/potholes; help retain local businesses; keep public areas and parks clean/safe; support youth/ senior programs, and other general City services; shall the measure establishing a 1¢ sales tax providing approximately $800,000 annually until ended by voters; requiring public disclosure of spending, audits, all funds used locally, be adopted?
