Family Court Judge Shawcross to retire

Rhode Island: Raymond E. Shawcross, longtime judge of the Rhode Island Family Court, has announced that he plans to retire on January 31, 2011. He has served on this court since 1986 and is 65 years old. Regarding his retirement, Shawcross explained, "I have mixed emotions...I think the timing is right for me. I certainly will miss my colleagues.” He will sit as a part-time judge in April and then will be on callback status if he is needed for a case. Prior to becoming a judge, he worked as legal counsel to Child Welfare Services, as a lawyer with the Department of Social and Rehabilitative Services and as counsel for two Rhode Island Representatives.[1]
