Farouk Shami an entrepreneur and businessman from Ramallah, West Bank, who now lives in Houston, Texas. Shami first came to American in 1965, where he attended cosmetology school. He now runs a large hair-care and spa products company in Houston. Shami was raised in the Muslim faith, but now describes himself as a Quaker.

On November 19th, 2009, Farouk Shami announced his candidacy as a Democrat in Texas' 2010 Gubernatorial election.[1] He lost in the primary election.
