Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Stewart's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs, Economic Growth and Taxes: We must simplify our tax system. Currently Americans have to hire attorneys and accountants to file their taxes – often the wealthy pay specialized accountants to find tax loopholes. This must end. We need a simple, fair, transparent tax that is easy to understand and economical to pay.
  • Natural Resources: The way our government has squandered instead of managed our natural resources over the past few decades has bordered on criminal. Every year, hundreds of thousands of acres of our forests in Oregon burn – more carbon is released into the air from these fires than is released from all the vehicular emissions for all vehicles in the Pacific Northwest.
  • National Defense: Today American values, safety and interests are under attack across the globe. We must regain our undisputed role as a world leader, which will require strategic investment in our military. Over the past decade, the world has seemed to spin dangerously out of control, with regimes like North Korea and Iran increasing their nuclear programs, and even China is taking steps to destabilize the Pacific Rim.
  • Healthcare: We all want the most vulnerable among us have access to quality health care as well as to ensure that healthcare is truly affordable for those in the middle class. Sadly, instead of fixing this important problem, politicians have made it even worse.
  • Second Amendment: The right to bear arms is fundamental. It is spelled out in plain language in our Constitution. This simple to understand, basic right was intended to keep Americans safe from an authoritative government. This right has come under increasing attack, as elected officials would have us believe that guns, and not criminals, cause crime.
